Introducing ACTIVATE – Empowering Neurodiverse Youth Through Advocacy

Are you passionate about advocating for your rights and the rights of others? If you’re a young person between 18 and 29 who is eager to make a difference, we’ve got exciting news for you! The ACTIVATE project is here to empower neurodiverse youth, particularly those on the autism spectrum, to become leaders and advocates in their communities.

What is ACTIVATE?
ACTIVATE stands for Autistic Community Through Advocacy, Training, and Empowerment, and it’s more than just a project—it’s a movement. Launched with support from the Erasmus+ Programme, ACTIVATE aims to break down barriers and create opportunities for young people with neurodiversity to lead meaningful advocacy efforts. By providing essential training, tools, and a supportive network, we’re enabling neurodivergent individuals to speak up for their needs, foster understanding, and drive positive societal change.

Why is ACTIVATE Important?
Advocacy and representation for neurodiverse individuals, particularly those on the autism spectrum, are more important than ever. Historically, young autistic individuals have been underrepresented in policy discussions and community leadership roles. ACTIVATE seeks to change that by equipping young neurodiverse people with the skills they need to take charge of their futures and make their voices heard. Through this program, we will foster self-advocacy and promote autism acceptance, not just among participants but throughout wider society.

The Online Advocacy Academy
A key component of the project is the Online Advocacy Academy. This fun, dynamic, and interactive platform will be a space for young advocates to learn how to effectively campaign for change. Participants will receive training in essential advocacy skills, from public speaking to digital campaigning, all while connecting with other passionate neurodiverse individuals across Europe. Through this academy, we are building a powerful community of like-minded young people who are ready to champion the rights of autistic and neurodivergent individuals.

Activities that Inspire Change
ACTIVATE doesn’t stop at education—it’s about action. As part of our commitment to making a lasting impact, the project includes a variety of exciting campaigns and events, such as:

Autism Acceptance Month Campaign: Participate in activities that celebrate neurodiversity and educate the public.
#AskAnAutistic Live Q&A Sessions: Engage with autistic advocates, ask questions, and gain insights into the lived experiences of neurodiverse individuals.

#MyAutismJourney Campaign: Share personal stories that highlight the unique challenges and triumphs of life on the autism spectrum.

European Community of Practice (CoP): Join a network of autistic youth across Europe, exchanging knowledge, advocating for rights, and making sure that neurodiverse voices are heard in policy-making.
